Welcome to ElderNET Calgary

ElderNET Calgary is a community driven planning collaboartive network with representatives from non-profit agencies, service organizations, governmental, private and educational sectors, and seniors and their families. The main governance body of ElderNET is called the ENC Coordinating Committee. The goal of the Coordinating Committee is to bring together a diversity of ideas and experience in order to generate innovative ideas for improving the life of older Calgarians.

Our Vision: "Successful Aging for all older Calgarians."

Our Mission: "To improve the quality of life for older Calgarians through a leadership role in shared planning and action."

In the spring of 2011 ElderNET hosted a number of converation workshops that focused on "Successful aging for all older Calgarians".

Please click here to view the raw data responses gathered during the workshops.  The responses represent what "Successful aging for all older Calgarians" meant to our participants, as well as, their thoughts on the assets and challenges that exist for our aging demographic.  The data from the group work illustrates the ideas for transformational possibilities regarding successful aging and building collaborative action to support this vision.  These initial themes are by no means a finite list.

Creating an Age Friendly Calgary by 2020 Forum held on February 9, 2012

On February 9, 2012, more than 130 organizational leaders from the older adult service sector, seniors organizations/clubs, and a diverse representation of community members attended a forum to explore an initiative called "Creating an Age Friendly Calgary by 2020."  Bethany Care Society and ElderNET Calgary co-hosted the event in order to plant the seeds for long term sustainability action to ensure the quality of life for older adults in our communities.  At the Forum, participants heard presentations on "age friendly" research and provocative reflections on building a movement for transformative change by our facilitator Mark Cabaj (Tamarack Institute).

Please find attached a summary report that documents participant input concerning the two primary dialogue questions the forum posed: What's currently working and not working well in the City of Calgary?  What new possibilities for action can we create to ensure Calgary excels as an age friendly city by 2020?  We believe the forum was just one step in a long term collaborative initiative that will represent the writing of this story together.

Please find attached a brief survey that we are asking participants and invitees to complete by Friday March 30th. A summary of the survey findings will be distributed to all participants and invitees.  We look forward to the feedback that will emerge from the survey as the community comes together to collectively create a social movement to achieve this important vision.
